BLOSSOM
MAISON VALENTINO was founded by Valentino Garavani and Giancarlo Giammetti at the height of Rome’s ‘LA DOLCE VITA’ era. It didnt take long for the house to achieve international recognition for its distinct style, quality and glamour. After more than 45 years, the duo have bid their adieu from MAISON VALENTINO and replaced by CEO, Stefano Stassi and creative directors Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli.

Pierpaolo Piccioli, flying solo in control of Valentino couture for the first time, spoke about deaming in a different sense. Dreams make us human; they go down to who each of us are, in ourselves,” he said. That thought had led him back to Greek myths and legends, "because they were the beginning of
naming human feelings.” Those impulses-thinking about dreamscapes and the pure, classical aesthethics of ancient Greek architecture- have a liberating effect on Piccioli’s collection.

This Paris Haute Couture season has been wanting someone to let loose with feathers and wildly
clashing colours and unfettered sense of fantasia, albeit without going down any tiresomely stereotyped princess route. Piccioli was the man who nailed
it, simply by introducing the idea that couture can also mean trousers and the extravagance of sweeping 50s opera coat or a 60s tunic cocktail top.

Piccioli loves couture for what it is,the lightness and it’s uniqueness. Ruffles, ball gown volumes, lace and old-fashioned wallpaper florals as well as techniques and embellishments that valentino himself perfected through the years and reworking with them in
dynamic ways, Piccioli created a couture that looked entirely relevant for 2019 and beyond.
